Product Care
Product Care
We constantly hear from repeat customers how they never take off our jewelry because they love to wear it all of the time! We hope this is the same for you as well!
The metals we use at JK Designs include 14K gold filled, rose gold, sterling silver, at 14k solid gold. All of our metals are hypoallergenic and nickel free.
We use semi-precious gemstones, precious gemstones and freshwater pearls.
Below, we have included a few common product care guidelines to help you extend the durability and longevity of each piece.
14K Solid Gold
We offer this to customers looking for durability and jewelry that will last a lifetime. The value of 14K solid is worth the investment when given proper care. Our customers appreciate that these are forever pieces. Here are simple guidelines to take care of your piece:
- Polish: a polishing cloth can be used to remove dirt and oils that will naturally collect if you are actively wearing it everyday.
- Gently Clean: Wash with warm water and mild soap. Use a soft brush to gently scrub it, rinse thoroughly, and pat dry with a clean cloth.
- Store Properly: Keep your jewelry in a dry, cool place. Use individual soft pouches or a lined jewelry box to prevent scratches and tarnishing.
- Avoid Chemicals: Keep your jewelry away from harsh chemicals, such as those in cleaning products, chlorine from pools, and personal care products like perfumes and lotions. Apply beauty products before putting on your jewelry.
- Remove During Activities: Take off your jewelry before engaging in activities that may cause sweating, such as exercising, or where it could get scratched or damaged, like swimming or cleaning.
- Handle with Care: Be gentle when putting on or taking off your jewelry to avoid bending, scratching, or damaging it.
14K Gold Filled
We offer 14k gold filled jewelry because of the higher quality and durability. It contains 100-times the amount of gold found in gold plated. This allows gold filled to withstand everyday wear so you don’t have to be concerned about it flaking off or turning as you would with gold plated jewelry.

Sterling Silver
Our sterling silver is 925 silver, a lightweight metal. Sterling 925 refers to a specific type of sterling silver that is made up of 92.5% pure silver and 7.5% other alloy that allows more strength for wearing everyday. Use a sterling polishing cloth should it tarnish.
- Store Properly: Store in a cool, dry place away from sunlight.
- Regular Cleaning: Clean with mild soap and warm water. Use a soft cloth or brush to gently scrub it, rinse thoroughly, and dry with a clean, soft cloth. For more stubborn tarnish, use a silver polish or a special silver cleaning cloth.
- Proper Storage: Store your sterling silver in a cool, dry place. Use anti-tarnish pouches or cloths, and keep each piece separate to prevent scratches. You can also place silica gel packs or anti-tarnish strips in your storage area to reduce moisture and prevent tarnishing.
- Avoid Chemicals: Keep your jewelry away from harsh chemicals, such as those in household cleaners, chlorine from pools, and personal care products like lotions, perfumes, and hair sprays. Apply these products before putting on your jewelry.
- Remove During Activities: Take off your jewelry before engaging in activities that might expose it to sweat, water, or chemicals, such as exercising, swimming, or cleaning.
- Use Baking Soda for Tough Tarnish: For tough tarnish, you can create a paste with baking soda and water. Gently rub the paste onto the silver with a soft cloth, rinse thoroughly, and dry completely.
- Handle with Care: Be gentle when putting on or taking off your jewelry to avoid bending, scratching, or damaging it.
Rose Gold
Rose gold is made from a blend of gold and copper, which gives it a distinctive pink color. The added copper not only provides the beautiful color but also makes the gold stronger and more durable. The Rose Gold we use is 14k gold filled and will follow the similar guidelines to care for your piece.

Gemstones
JK Designs uses sem-precious and precious gemstones in all of our designs. We want to make sure your gemstones last and look as good as the day that they were purchased. By following these guidelines, you can help preserve the beauty and longevity of your gemstones.
General Care
- Keep Away from Chemicals: Avoid exposing your gemstone jewelry to household chemicals, cosmetics, perfumes, and lotions, as they can damage the stones and metals.
- Avoid Extreme Temperatures: Sudden temperature changes can cause gemstones to crack or discolor.
- Store Properly: Store your jewelry in a soft cloth or a jewelry box with compartments to prevent scratches. Avoid storing multiple pieces together to prevent them from scratching each other.
- Wear with Care: Put on your jewelry after applying makeup, hairspray, or perfume to minimize exposure to chemicals. Remove your jewelry before engaging in activities that might cause damage, such as sports or heavy work.
Cleaning
- Use Mild Soap and Water: Clean most gemstone jewelry with a solution of mild soap and warm water. Use a soft brush (like a toothbrush) to gently scrub the piece. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.
- Avoid Harsh Cleaners: Avoid using harsh cleaners, ultrasonic cleaners, or steam cleaners, as they can damage some gemstones.
- Check for Specific Gemstone Care: Some gemstones require special care. For example, opals and pearls are very delicate and should be cleaned with just a damp cloth.
Gemstones that Require Special Care
- Sunlight Exposure: Some gemstones, like amethyst and topaz, can fade if exposed to too much sunlight. Store them in a dark place when not being worn.
- Porous Stones: Gemstones like turquoise and opal can absorb liquids, so avoid submerging them in water for prolonged periods.
